Tonsilitis

Poor little Ben was obviously not feeling well over the weekend and yesterday morning, so I got him in to see the doctor yesterday afternoon. Turns out he has tonsilitis, so that would explain all the crying and reluctance to eat! That's my first real lesson in trying to figure out what hurts on a baby that can't tell you...I never would have guessed a sore throat. Here's the little guy waking up in a pretty bad mood:

Amazingly, as quickly as he got sick, he has bounced right back with the antibiotics! Kids are amazing. This morning he was already running all over the house checking on all the fun things he'd ignored for the past few days and probably making sure we hadn't put too many things back in their rightful places. He's like a new person!

I started leaving bread out on our porch to attract the birds and Ben was fascinated with them today. He kept crawling over to the window and scaring them off, but once I said "the birds went bye-bye" and he turned around waved out the window to them! He's just now really beginning to communicate with us (which I think is maybe a little slow, but who's counting?) but he really surprises me sometimes with what he understands. If it has anything to do with buttons or lights, he's defintely going to figure it out. Ben knows how to use my keycard to unlock the elevator and then push the up button from the garage. I guess it's all about what's most interesting!

Speaking of parking garages, I realized today how much I like parking here, even though I usually complain about having to pay to park all the time. I was parked in a surface lot today and when I got back in the car after it had been in the sun for a few hours it was like being back in Houston. People here are brilliant because they have basement garage parking almost everywhere so we hardly ever have to get in a suffocating car, even on the hottest days. Now, as soon as I get good enough to back into a space in one try I'll quit all my complaining!
