The kids had to give away their parakeets before we moved here and we promised them we'd get some birds. We decided after church one day it was time to go pick out a new pet and we ended up at a street full of little pet shops. Oh, but no sweet canary or funny myna bird for us...we ended up with a baby Hahns Macaw.
He was so tiny and cute! The kids immediately agreed that his name should be Buddy.
We've had to be extra careful with him because he didn't have all of his adult feathers and was extra sensitive to cold and was just learning to stand on a perch.
Little Buddy also requires hand-feeding several times a day! Things I didn't know when we signed up for this, but he's cute and oh so grateful for his formula and mango.
He also loves a good cuddle.
So now, a few weeks into being parrot owners, we're watching our little guy grow up and learn to fly! It's adorable to watch, not so much fun when we're trying to eat dinner and he wants to see what we're eating.
He's developing pretty colors under his wings and when he molts for the first time he should have red on his shoulders as well.
We love our sweet boy and it's so much fun to have a pet again! We know it's a temporary situation since it's doubtful he'll be able to move with us anywhere, but we got him from a licensed breeder who loves his birds and will happily take him back when our time in Indonesia is done. In the meantime, we'll enjoy our years with him.
