Hello, Spring Break!

We always welcome spring break but we were especially excited about this one.  Instead of booking accommodations near one another, we were doing the week with the McCulloughs and we were all thrilled about our week on Bali and Nusa Lembongan. We watched their flight take off about 30 minutes before ours.

It was actually a nice day in Jakarta when we left...

...but it always looks better when you arrive in Bali! The winds were different so we landed from the East and had gorgeous views over the island.  We were extra excited to see Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida in the distance because we had plans to visit both in the next week.

We spent our first night on Bali at the Mandira Kuta, a charming little beachfront place with amazing specials. We each had connecting rooms inside a little cottage.

We like to take the early flight because it gives us time to hit up Don Juan's for lunch! Nothing better! (and I would like to point out that Ben is not taller than me.  Yet.  I'm just standing behind him)

The kids spent the afternoon swimming and ordering ice cream while the adults relaxed and soaked in the sunshine.

The Azul beach club upstairs used to be a pretty busy spot but it was nice and quiet for us.

Dinner was lovely and we were the only people at the restaurant.  They had to tell us about last call for orders to make sure they closed before the curfew!

Sunday morning dawned beautifully!

The servers at breakfast overheard that it was Tate's birthday and brought him some extra pancakes and sang happy birthday...so sweet!

The kids wanted to enjoy the huge slide again, even though they were all bruised from Saturday after doing this for hours.

We had to drag them out of one pool so we could take them to another!  We decided to do lunch and play for a while at the Hard Rock Resort.

We rented our cabanas and settled in for a great day! Again, we had pretty much the entire massive pool to ourselves.

Finally, it was time for the big event - the trip over to Nusa Lembongan and our real home for the week. The two travel agents got everyone checked in for the ferry. It's nice when you can get boarding passes in your swimsuit.

We waited patiently while the luggage and cargo was sorted and tried to figure out how many people were going to be on the boat with us. Thankfully, only about 6 other people joined us and they sat at the back.

The boats bring all the supplies to tiny Nusa Lembongan, so it was really interesting to see what was being shipped over.  This cart was full of rice, flowers, and leaves...all supplies for making the daily Hindu offerings.

And then some bule suitcases and surfboards! We were very grateful that they hand carried the suitcases across the sand.

Boarding time! One of the few places where you're asked to remove your shoes on your way in.

We claimed the front of the boat and enjoyed the fresh air on the 30 minute ride across.

Alex remembered hating the ferry last time but thankfully this ride was much smoother. He still got a quick nap on the way to recharge before we arrived.
